Speech therapy classes are additional classes for students wishing to improve their speech.
Classes are held in semesters I–IV of full-time, first degree studies, amounting to 15 hours per semester. These are individual classes lasting 45 minutes. Classes in speech therapy are a complementary range of exercises, in which deficiencies occurring at the phonological and phonetic level are compensated. Speaking rate, articulation, diction, breathing and correct realisation of sounds, articulatory flexibility, differences in writing and speaking, semantics of prosodic texts are improved.
It is individual work with each student, adapted to their needs and abilities.
These classes, as opposed to Polish language classes, which teach language and knowledge of the language, are aimed at improving the use of the mother tongue and correcting pronunciation irregularities that have occurred.
It is important for hearing-impaired students to participate in speech therapy classes, as this will enable them to rehabilitate their language, gradually compensate for awkwardness or lack of knowledge, and enter into the influence of the so-called developed language code.
This will enable students with hearing impairment and other communication problems to participate more fully in the educational process.
